To stay at the Hotel Avenida Palace is to sample the lifestyle of Portugal’s 19th century aristocracy. Built in 1892, this became Lisbon’s first luxury hotel. Today, its romantic, Belle Epoque exterior makes the Avenida Palace one of Lisbon’s finest architectural landmarks. The original furnishings of the hotel are by one of England’s great Victorian design entrepreneurs, Sir John Blundell Maple, and many of these original pieces remain in the bedrooms and public areas today.

A lavish breakfast is served in the breakfast room, with its high ceilings, sparkling chandeliers and great arched windows overlooking the Avenida da Liberdade. Lunch and dinner are available to groups of 15 or more people while the intimate, wood-panelled bar is the perfect place for a glass of port.
